What do MoveOn and Daily Kos have in common?

Daily Kos and MoveOn both launched VoteAmerica’s voter tools on their websites! Anyone who visits either one can now use our registration, ballot tracking, and election reminder tools directly.

VoteAmerica doesn’t only run our own turnout program. We build the software that other organizations plug into theirs, for free. More than 290 organizations already use it, including Everytown. Daily Kos and MoveOn just joined that list. Every dollar you’ve given VoteAmerica is now working across two of the biggest lists in progressive politics.

Here’s the assumption I think most of us make without realizing it: people who are already engaged, people who read the emails, sign the petitions, show up in the comments, obviously vote. Why wouldn’t they?

But that’s not what happened after 2020. Young voters didn’t swing toward the other side. Support for Republicans among young voters barely moved. What moved was turnout: non-voting among young voters climbed roughly 10 points. Being engaged with a cause and being reminded to vote are two different things, and most organizations do only the first.

Most candidates spend nearly all their money chasing a fraction of persuadable voters and assume everyone else will show up on their own. But voting here is complicated, and plenty of well-intentioned people skip elections simply because nobody reminded them that the second Tuesday of November was coming.

That’s the gap our tools close. People who use our election reminders are less likely to skip, because we remind them every election, for as long as they want us to.

So when Daily Kos and MoveOn hand their members our tools, they’re plugging their audiences into infrastructure built specifically to turn good intentions into actual impact: votes.

That infrastructure exists because donors like you funded it before Daily Kos or MoveOn ever asked about it.
